ABSTRACT

Radiation is a threat to health in work place and in general environment. Workers in radiation therapy department are exposed to variety type of occupational hazards. Health and safety measures compliance may decrease the health sequences of hazards to exposure. the research aimed to find out compliance to safety measures toward radiation hazards among the health team. the study were conducted at two radiation therapy settings affiliated to the largest cancer hospitals at Cairo governorate, National Cancer Institute and El demerdash hospital in Ain Shams university. A purposive sample [108] health team members in two settings were selected. [1] self administered questionnaire, [2] health team compliance observation checklist. finding revealed that, most of studied sample age were 35-45 years and had secondary education, most of them were had unsatisfactory knowledge and most of them were not compliance to health and safety measures compliance were more in safety practice. the study concluded there were lack of knowledge about radiation therapy, radiation hazards, and radiation safety measures specially technician, nurses, and clerk and low level of compliance to health and safety measures. the study recommended establish plans for periodical safety training courses for health team member in radiation setting to help in improving their practice and update their knowledge

ABSTRACT

Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder in childhood Mothers of children with a chronic condition such as epilepsy have to cope with the burden of daily related to the illness and the constant adjustment to the changing demands of the chronic condition. to assess coping patterns of mothers of children with epilepsy through: Assessing mother's awareness and practice regarding childhood epilepsy, and detecting mother's coping patterns toward their children with epilepsy. A descriptive research design was utilized in this study, the convenience sample consisted of 120 epileptic children and their accompanying mothers recruited from the epileptic outpatient Clinic and the neurological pediatric out patient clinic affiliated to Ain Shams University hospital. Data were collected using questionnaire regarding knowledge and practice about childhood epilepsy, and coping scale to assess maternal coping toward their epileptic children. The mean age of the mothers' was 34.341 +/- 5.850 years. 71.7% of them had poor knowledge, 59.2% not done practice related to epilepsy disease. A statistically significant correlation was found between problems-oriented coping used by mother of epileptic children and her knowledge [P= 0.000], and practice toward childhood epilepsy [P=. 0.005]. The majority of the studied mothers were having poor knowledge and practice related to their epileptic children, particularly in regard to types of epilepsy and first aid management of acute seizures. Three fifth of them tended to cope by always using emotional oriented coping. Further researches are needed to determine the barriers that affect negatively the mothers of epileptic children coping patterns with their affected children. Conduct Continuous various educational programs for the mothers of epileptic children, based on needs assessment to raise their awareness regarding epilepsy

ABSTRACT

Was two folds to: explore women's practices and coping patterns with menopausal symptoms through: [a] Recognizing women's symptoms associated with menopause, [b] Assessing women's knowledge regarding menopause, [c] Identifying women's health related coping practices during menopause, and to develop instructional guidelines for women as a model for better coping with menopause. A convenient sample of total 190 menopausal women, aged <40 to >50 years was selected from three maternal and child health centers and three health centers representing different Urban districts in Cairo. Home visits in the same areas were conducted. Three tools were used for data collection [1] Interviewing questionnaire format [2] Lifestyle Behavior Scale, and [3] Coping Patterns scale. Findings indicated that the MW always had hot flushes [44.2%], irregular heart beats and joints and muscles pain had same percentages [41.1%]. 56.8% of them had night sweating. feeling tired and anxiety represented 65.8% and 57.9%, respectively. A high statistically significant correlation was found between women's health related practice and coping patterns with the MS and vice versa, and highly statistically significant correlation between women' education and income and their coping pattern. While, a statistically significant correlation was existed between age and coping pattern. However, Meanwhile, highly statistical significant correlation existed between women' knowledge related to menopause their coping with menopause. The most common symptoms among MW include hot flushes, muscle and joint pain, sweating and irregular heart beats, besides obesity [grade I], in addition to feeling tired, anxiety and fear from future. MS affected most of the subjects' marital relationships and sexual relations. The MW were able to adapt/manage the physical symptoms efficiently, while they failed in relieving psychological and sexual symptoms, and reducing weight. Lack of menopause related knowledge, sources of health education and increased women's tolerance towards adaptation for any complain decreased the women's tendency to express suffering. The CHNs should do the followings in all community health settings: Encourage MW to perform periodical examination. Carry out related health education/counseling sessions including coping strategies. Freely distribute the developed instructional guidelines to all MW. Utilize officially a T.V. channel and broadcasting as a mass media, associated with real life examples. Encourage women in coping and helping family members to become supportive with MW through home visiting / outreach services, beside update and sharpen her knowledge through On-Job-Training programs and others

ABSTRACT

Health education and increased knowledge of mothers in relation to their health is one of the major concerns of the public health sector throughout the world, and it is a strategy for improving maternal and child health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of health education on the mothers' practices during puerperium. The study sample consisted of 258 mothers residenting in El Khossous village, Qualiobeya Governorate. Three tools were used for data collection. The first tool was an interviewing questionnaire for collecting data related to socio-demographic characteristics, parity and mothers knowledge; second tool was an observation check-list for assessing mothers practices, house sanitation, and signs of illness; the third tool was physical examination for assessing infant growth and development. The results demonstrated significant effects of health education on mothers' knowledge and practices and a reduction in mothers and infants health problems. The study recommended that health education about puerperium care must be given to all pregnant women attending the Maternal and Child Health Center
